What is a VTC service?
VTC is the acronym for vehicle with driver, which refers to chauffeur-driven vehicles that transport one or more passengers from one point of origin to another.
Their difference from conventional public transportation is that with VTCs, the passenger chooses both the departure point and the destination. This is different from other chauffeur-driven public transportation, which usually have specific pickup points and specific stops along the way. It's also different from simple vehicle rentals, where you drive and no one drives you. Although according to this definition, taxis are also chauffeur-driven transportation vehicles, the term VTC is used to refer to services other than taxis. Their activity is based on licenses and is similar to other classic services such as chauffeur and limousine services. However, although these characteristics often left them in the background, the emergence of services such as Cabify and Uber have given a new dimension to VTCs, which have gradually gained ground among transportation alternatives. VTCs must also always carry a sticker that distinguishes them from other transportation options, which must always be visible from the outside of the vehicle. The design of these stickers depends on each community, and for example, in Madrid, Valencia, and Catalonia, they must have a sticker with the regional symbol.
